It’s Thursday, which means we’re inching closer to the end of the week! It also means there’s a new Wordle word puzzle for you to try solving while you wait for the weekend to finally arrive. And as always, we’re here with some tips and hints to help you through if you get stuck.

If you’d rather skip straight to the solution, scroll to the end of this article for the answer to September 1’s Wordle revealed. But if you want that feeling of achievement that only puzzling out today’s Wordle answer yourself can give you, keep reading for a few tips, clues, and strategies to assist you.

    Where did Wordle come from?

Originally created by engineer Josh Wardle as a gift for his partner, Wordle rapidly spread to become an international phenomenon, with thousands of people around the globe playing every day. Alternate Wordle versions created by fans have even sprung up, including battle royale Squabble, music identification game Heardle, and variations like Dordle and Quordle that make you guess multiple words at once.

Wordle eventually became so popular that it was purchased by The New York Times, and TikTok creators even livestream themselves playing.

Not the day you’re after? Here’s the Wordle answer for August 31.

What’s the best Wordle starting word?

Just as there’s no objective best way to have fun, there is no objective best Wordle starting word. However, if you want to be strategic in your approach, we have a few ideas to help you choose a good opening. This includes selecting a word with at least two different vowels in it, plus as well as common consonants like S, T, R, or N.

What happened to the Wordle archive?

The entire archive of past Wordles used to be available for you to access whenever you like, so you’d never be left without a puzzle to solve. Unfortunately it has since been taken down, which was done at the request of The New York Times according to the website’s creator. From a productivity perspective, this may be for the best.

    Is Wordle getting harder?

While it may not feel like it at times, Wordle isn’t getting any harder than it was when it first began. Though if you’re having the opposite problem and are craving more of a challenge, Wordle does have a Hard Mode you can enable to up the ante.

Why are there two different Wordle answers some days?

Wordle’s natural order dictates that there should only ever be one solution per day, however occasionally the puzzle game will allow two different collect solutions. This is because The New York Times made changes to Wordle after acquiring it earlier this year.

Here’s a subtle hint for today’s Wordle answer

The solution to today’s Wordle is a plural noun, and in some ways defies categorisation.

Does today’s Wordle answer have a double letter?

No double letters in today’s Wordle solution — we’re working with all original letters.

    Today’s Wordle is a 5-letter word that starts with…

Today’s Wordle starts with the letter F, as in “FANCY” by TWICE.

What’s the answer to Wordle today?

Get your last guesses in now, because it’s your final chance to solve today’s Wordle before we reveal the solution.

    Drumroll please!

The solution to Wordle #439 is…

    FUNGI.

Fungi are organisms such as a mushroom or mould that produces spores. HBO’s upcoming series The Last of Us is about a parasitic fungus that infects people’s brains and turns them into zombies. While fungi appear closest to plants and are actually more similar to animals, they cannot be categorised as either.

Don’t feel bad if you didn’t get it this time! The beauty of Wordle is that there’s always a new one for you to try the next day. Come back tomorrow for more helpful clues and hints!
